10 Products to Use Before You Flat Iron (US/Canadian Market)

Flat ironing can really cause hair problems!  Whether it’s split ends, hair shafts splitting or hair breaking off at the root, a flat iron could be the root of your problems.  Here’s 10 products that can help you save your hair!

Before you flat iron, put in these leave-in products to keep your hair healthy!  No two products are the same, so read up, try some new stuff and iron carefully!

1.) Alberto VO5 Sheer Hairdressing Weightless Leave-In Anti-Frizz & Shine Creme – It’s a bit heavier than a regular leave-in conditioner, but if your hair is really breaking off, it will keep it in much better shape.  You can also use it to help in styling, particularly with bangs.

2.) Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Leave-In Split End Protector Treatment – This is a regular leave-in designed for split end protection.  Using a hair iron and holding it on the ends can cause this, so make sure to apply extra to the ends of your hair.

3.) John Frieda Frizz-Ease Care Daily Nourishment Leave-In Conditioning Spray – This is an all-over treatment to prevent daily wear.  It’s good for before or after you use your hair iron.

4.) Infusium 23 Leave-In Treatment 3, Repair & Renew – Not only does this protect your hair before you iron, it stays in all day and prevents environmental damage.  When hair is already broken from heat damage, environmental damage can be even more dangerous.

5.) Aussie Leave-In Conditioner, Hair Insurance – A classic leave-in, this one is light enough that you can use a hair iron on it without affecting your style (like in the case of cremes that might make styling more difficult).  It works great with hair wax or pomade over it.

6.) Desert Essence Organic Jojoba Oil – Since this is an oil, be careful when you flat iron.  Putting an oil on your hair first can make temperatures even hotter than they were without the oil.  Test out a small spot with the least amount of heat, before you burn your hair off, split your ends and cry.  But seriously, oil reduces the amount of heat you need to flat iron properly, so be conservative.

7.) Kerastase Nutritive Oleo-Relax, Smoothing Controlling Care – With extra amino acids, this rebuilds the structure of your hair.  It’s great for severely damaged hairs, but mind that you should be careful about keeping the heat on one spot for too long!

8.) Weleda Rosemary Hair Oil – This hair oil also works for dandruff.  Apply a very small amount before using your hair iron and you’ll get fewer hairs breaking at the root.  Hair thinning and hair loss are often caused by dandruff, so this also will reduce the chance that dandruff will weaken your hair.

9.) Aveeno Active Naturals Nourish + Condition Leave-In Treatment- With natural elements, this product works to restore overall hair health.  Use before ironing your hair and you will have stronger hair.  It’s a bit of a lighter treatment, so it works well with wax or pomade after you use your hair iron.

10.) Cantu Super Shine Hair Silk – This treatment is great for those who are looking for hair shine.  It’s a light and shiny serum that gives shine and softness to your hair.  It withstands the hair iron and comes out on top as maintaining shine throughout the day.  If you apply additional products on this, it will reduce its shine!

So there you go!  10 wonderful options to use before you start ironing your hair!
