How does a CT cause hair loss?

A CT causes hair loss on the part of the body that was exposed to radiation.  Unlike chemotherapy, which causes all-over loss, a CT causes hair loss only on parts of the body that were exposed.  Only a head CT will cause hair loss on your head.

A CT is like any other radiation – it kills cells. During recent upgrades in technology, CT scanners have been equipped with even more radiation than ever before.

When administered at a safe level, a CT should not cause hair loss or other side effects. Unfortunately, with new technology entering this field more and more determining what level of radiation a CT gives off is harder and harder. There are also regulatory problems regarding the administration of CT’s.
