Why isn’t Avodart approved for hair loss?

Avodart isn’t presently approved for use against hair loss (in America), however it has been approved in other countries.  Avodart is widely approved for use in treating enlarged prostates.

The FDA, the agency that approves prescription drugs in the United States, at present hasn’t received enough clinical research about the efficacy and safety of Avodart when it’s used in treating hair loss.

This doesn’t mean that Avodart is unsafe (it has been approved in treating other conditions), simply that as a treatment for hair loss, it hasn’t completed all the necessary clinical trials.

Speak to your doctor about whether using Avodart is right for you.  It’s a decision only a trained medical professional can make.
