.) Scientific evidence suggests that marijuana smoking could prevent hair loss! How? Apparently, THC prevents the binding of DHT to androgen receptors – in normal speak – it keeps you from losing your hair.
.) Some people (well, Nigerians I guess) seem to think that rubbing marijuana on their head helps hair grow. Are they right? Who knows, but maybe there’s something to it.
.) Although some research links marijuana smoking and hair loss, the fact is that their findings did not show that marijuana caused hair loss in and of itself (in terms of who might be affected by male or female pattern baldness). What the research did show, is that in the same way that marijuana stunts the growth of other cells, it also stunts the growth of hair follicles.
.) There’s a lack of conclusive evidence. I know them, you know them, we all know them (or pretend you don’t) – they’re 60-year-old hippy men with a mess of ratty (but full!) hair on their head. It might be gray, it might be a rat’s nest, but it’s still there. They’ve been smoking since they were 12 years old in 1969 and still have their hair. If there were a 100% link between marijuana and hair loss, all potheads would be bald or balding. How is this scientific? Well, if something is 100% true all the time, then every single person would be affected the same way, but by my example, you see it’s not true 100% of the time.
.) Stress, serious illness or a traumatic event can cause hair loss. For those people for whom smoking marijuana reduces stress, lessens symptoms of illnesses and helps in recovery from traumatic events, smoking marijuana could be fixing the root causes of hair loss.
