Trichotillomania – Pulling Out Your Own Hair

So, you’re pulling out your own hair – how could this happen? Well, unless you’re doing it in your sleep, you’re probably aware that you’re a trichotillomaniac. It’s easy to say “stop pulling it out,” but really hard to do. I remember I had a friend in middle school that did it, she says it was like scratching an itch. She wore hats, put gel, but just couldn’t stop. I can’t imagine that she liked being half bald, so I get that it’s something that can’t be helped on your own.

The only thing you can do is seek psychological treatment. If you do it in your sleep, wear mittens. My friend’s baby scratches himself all night long, so they put him in mittens for bed. Seems as good a solution as any.
